Roblox content maturity provides information on the game's main details page about what kind of content the game contains so that players can make informed decisions about what they interact with. Learn more in the Parental Controls FAQ help article.
Roblox Kids and Roblox Select are account types for users under 16 that help match younger users with age-appropriate games by default. Parents can still use Parental Controls to manage content maturity settings and to allow and block specific games for their child’s account.
What happens when certain games are restricted based on their content maturity?
Using Parental Controls, parents can set the content maturity level for the child’s account, allowing the child to only join games that match or are below the level set. Games above the selected content maturity level may still be displayed in search results or advertised in ads, however, the games will not be playable. Users will receive a message stating the game is unavailable due to the content maturity restriction.
Can my child play games with a Content May Vary rating?
It depends on your child's age. A Content May Vary rating means the creator hasn't completed the full Maturity & Compliance questionnaire, so the game doesn’t have a more precise rating.
- Under 9: No. These games aren't available.
- 9 to 15: Not by default. You can allow a specific game from Allowed games in Parental Controls.
- 16 and 17: Yes, after completing an age check.
For a game to be available to younger players by default, the creator must complete the full questionnaire, get an age-appropriate rating, and meet the Roblox Kids and Roblox Select requirements.
All games must follow the Community Standards, including games with a Content May Vary rating. Learn more in Content Maturity Ratings.
How are content maturity ratings determined?
Roblox's recommendations are grounded in child development research and informed by industry standards. Creators answer a questionnaire about their game's content, and the answers determine the rating.
Creators only need to complete the full questionnaire to reach players under 16, run ads, publish age-restricted content, or publish in regions that require it. Other games receive a Content May Vary rating.
How do I configure my child’s content maturity settings?
You will need a Roblox account with parent privileges linked to the child’s account before you can configure the content maturity settings on their account. Learn how to set up additional protective features for your child in the Parents: How to Link a Child’s Account help article.
After your account is linked to the child’s account:
- Log into your account
- Go to Settings
- On desktop: Select the gear icon located at the top right
- On mobile: Select More located at the bottom right, and select Settings (gear icon)
- Select Parental controls
- If you have more than one child account linked, select the account you want to update
- Scroll down to Settings you manage and select Content restrictions
- Select Content maturity
- Choose the content maturity level for your child’s account. You can change the level at any time.
Users under 13 will have the ability to lower the content maturity level on their own account, but may require parent permission to select certain values.
How do Roblox Kids and Roblox Select affect content settings?
Roblox Kids and Roblox Select change what content is available to children by default based on age. Parents can still adjust content settings in Parental Controls, including Content Maturity. Depending on the child’s age and account type, parents may also be able to allow or block specific games. Access to some games and features may also depend on region.
Why do some games have a sensitive issue rating?
The sensitive issues content rating is applied to games that are primarily themed on current sensitive social, political, or religious issues. This rating is not intended to take a stance on any of these issues. Sensitive issues are topics with a limited number of strongly opposing viewpoints and little middle ground that tend to provoke strong emotional reactions or passionate debate.
Games primarily themed on sensitive issues are available only to age-checked users 16 and older. Parents with a linked Roblox account can use Parental Controls to allow their child access to these games, regardless of their child's age.
