Roblox is designed to provide age-appropriate games for all users. To ensure safety and access to the right features, it is important that your account reflects your actual birthday.
Minimum age requirement
- Ages 5 and Up: You must be at least five years old to create a Roblox account.
- Why? Since children under five are still building the cognitive skills and coordination needed to fully enjoy Roblox, you won't see birthday options for children younger than five when setting up an account on Roblox.
Providing your correct age ensures you have access to age-appropriate features, such as Voice Chat, and helps Roblox filter content to keep younger users safe.
How to change your age
If you made a mistake when signing up, you can correct your birthday in your settings.
- Log in to your Roblox account.
- Go to Settings
- On a Computer: Click the Gear icon in the upper-right corner.
- On Mobile: Tap the Three Dots icon (...).
- Select the Account Info tab.
- Click the Pencil icon next to your birthday.
- Enter the correct date and follow the prompts.
Note: Depending on the change, you may be required to verify your age using a government-issued ID (for users 13+) or obtain Parental Consent.
Updating your child's age (For parents)
Parents can manage their child’s age through linked accounts. To do this, you must first have your own Roblox account linked to your child's.
- Log in to your parent account.
- Navigate to Settings
- On a Computer: Click the Gear icon in the upper-right corner.
- On Mobile: Tap the Three Dots icon (...).
- Select the Parental Controls tab.
- If you have multiple children linked, select the specific account you want to update.
- Click the Pencil icon next to your child’s avatar.
- Select the arrow next to their birthday to edit it.
- If this arrow is not available, you cannot set your child’s birthday.
Important Restrictions:
- One-Time Change: Linked parents can only update a child's birthday once.
- ID Verification: If a child has already verified their age using a government ID, the birthday cannot be changed through parental controls.
-
Regional Rules: Some regions may have additional legal requirements for age updates.
Age check methods
- Facial Age Estimation: You can take a photo to receive age checked status. Note that regional restrictions may apply, and parental consent may be required in some regions. Learn more about age checks here.
- ID Verification: If you are 13 and older, you can use a passport, driver’s license, or other government ID to verify their age. For example, if you are under the age of 13 correcting your age to 19, you are required to ID verify. Learn more about age ID verification.
How to undo your age check
If you made a mistake and your age is checked to an 18+ age group, you can undo your age checked status by following these steps:
- Log in to your Roblox account
- Navigate to Settings
- On a Computer: Click the Gear icon in the upper-right corner.
- On Mobile: Tap the Three Dots icon (...).
- Select the Account Info tab.
- If you had previously received age check status based on Facial Age Estimation:
- Underneath your birthday and age group, click the Reset button
- Then, click the Continue button on the next screen
- If you had previously received age check status based on ID Verification:
- Underneath your birthday and age group, click the Reset button
Then, click the Continue button on the next screen. Note that your age checked status can only be undone once per account.
If you self-report as 13+ but are estimated as under 13, your account will enter a 48-hour grace period before the update is final. You can bypass this wait and get immediate access to features by accepting the age result by going to Settings > Account info > selecting Accept Now under Birthday.
