To maintain safety and quality, Roblox requires creators to meet eligibility requirements before publishing or updating games. Your requirements depend on your intended audience.
Check Your Status: View real-time progress under Account Settings > Eligibility or on the Audience Reach tab in Creator Hub (progress is identical in Studio).
Publishing Guidance: Roblox walks you through remaining requirements step-by-step as you publish.
Post-Launch Tracking: Once live, track your Highly Engaged Player progress (updated hourly) and see requirements for Roblox Kids or Roblox Select availability.

Maturity ratings
If your game doesn't include age-restricted content, you can publish to players 16 and older in most regions by answering one question. Your game will receive a Content May Vary rating.
Complete the full Maturity & Compliance questionnaire to get a more precise content rating if you want to:
- Publish age-restricted content. See Age-Restricted Content on Roblox.
- Reach players under 16. Only games rated Minimal or Mild are available on Roblox Kids accounts, and games rated up to Moderate on Roblox Select accounts.
- Run ads in your game. Ads can only run in games rated Minimal, Mild, Moderate, or Restricted.
- Publish in regions that require it. Some regions require every game to complete the full questionnaire. Games with a Content May Vary rating aren't available there.
After you complete the questionnaire, your game gets a precise content rating and is no longer rated as Content May Vary. All games must follow the Community Standards, including games with a Content May Vary rating.
Evaluation process (All ages)
To ensure content is appropriate for our youngest users, games intended for Roblox Kids and Roblox Select undergo a dynamic evaluation:
-
First published to 16+ users:
- New games are first made available to age-checked 16+ users. Roblox analyzes how these users interact with the game and monitors user reports.
-
Highly Engaged Player (HEP) threshold:
- In the initial launch phase, games typically need 250 unique plays by highly engaged, age-checked users (16+) within a 60-day window to qualify. We evaluate things like length of playtime, account age, play history, and if the user has recently spent somewhere on Roblox to ensure the engagement is genuine.
-
Publishing fee or subscription:
- Fee refund policy: If you pay the Robux fee, it will be refunded only if your game remains eligible for three months after you reach eligibility. If the game is permanently moderated or taken down for Community Standards violations during that time, the fee will not be returned. You may appeal moderation actions via the Creator Hub dashboard.
- Subscription expiry: If your subscription expires after a game has already passed evaluation, it will remain available to "All Ages." However, you must resubscribe to publish any new updates or new games to that audience.
- Owner eligibility: Eligibility is verified the first time a game is published. For Groups, the group owner must meet all requirements. For communities, the community owner must meet all requirements.
Early testing
You can invite up to 10 people to play your game in the Roblox app before you publish it. This lets you get feedback while you're still working on your game. You don't need to complete the full Maturity & Compliance questionnaire or meet the Roblox Kids and Roblox Select requirements first.
To invite early testers, you need to complete an age check. There's no cost to add early testers. If your game is paid, early testers can play it for free.
Who you can invite
- Games you own: Friends close to your age, or your trusted friends
- Games owned by a community: Members of that community
When you search for someone to invite, you'll only see people who are eligible. People who haven't completed an age check won't appear. Children under 9 won't appear unless a parent has given permission.
If someone you've added can't open your game, Roblox will prompt them to complete an age check, become trusted friends with you, or update their content restrictions.
Early testing isn't available in all regions.
Add early testers in Studio
- In the upper right of Studio, select Collaborate.
- Select the Early testers tab.
- Search for and add up to 10 people.
- Select Copy link, then send the link to your early testers.
- Select Save.
You can also manage early testers in Creator Hub. Go to Creations > Experiences, select your game, then go to Configure > Permissions. Your early testers are listed under Collaborators.
What early testers see
Early testers see a watermark while they play. It reminds them that the game is a preview and that the Community Standards still apply.
If your game has a content rating, content maturity limits still apply. Early testers under 18 can't play games rated Restricted. Early testers under 16 can't play games rated above what their parent allows, but they can ask their parent for permission.
