Roblox’s goal is to operate globally and be accessible to as many people as possible. To accomplish this, we must comply with local laws and regulations. We occasionally receive requests from governments and regulators that may result in specific Roblox features, content, or categories of content being restricted in that region. Where we have determined such a request to be valid, we generally comply with those requests.
There are three main types of feature restrictions. The first is monetization and trading features, which includes things like limitations on loot boxes, paid item trading, and avatar reselling. The second is communication features, with locally specific rules around general communication features and voice chat. Lastly, there are content features, which may include regional restrictions on ad targeting, search results, and specific categories or pieces of content.
There may be times where we have to remove specific pieces of content at the request of governments or regulators. In these cases, we would first evaluate whether that content violates Roblox’s global Community Standards. In cases where content does not violate our Community Standards, but still violates local laws or regulations, we may take actions to suppress that content in the region specified.
We are working on creating additional transparency for our community to more easily understand if their content has been impacted by any of these regional restrictions.
